The Richmond Pioneers opened scoring after just 10 minutes. Makeshift striker Graham Mason, fresh from surgery just 72 hours earlier, took a pass from Alex Aleksic, beating the offside trap and placing his shot in the far corner past the keeper.

Delta equalized on a low drive that left Pioneer keeper Dave Valitis with no chance, and increased their lead to take a 2-1 lead into the half time break.

Pioneers had lots of chances to equalize, with Kushnir shooting wide with just the keeper to beat, and Jim Fitzgerald hitting the post. Mason also had a chance after deflecting a Fitzgerald shot (he called it a pass) narrowly wide.

Delta also had chances to wrap the game up, and Valitis was called upon to make a stellar save, tipping the ball over the bar.

The Pioneers finally tied the game up on a penalty following a hand ball infraction, Kushnir converting the spot kick.

Despite late pressure from the Pioneers, the game ended all square.
