Unbeaten Pioneers settle for third place at Aldergrove tournament.

At the annual two day Aldergrove tournament, the Richmond Pioneers were unbeaten over their three games, yet had to settle for third place.

On Saturday, the Pioneers routinely dispatched Giant Panda and Langley Aces with identical 3-1 victories. The crunch game on Sunday to decide which team would advance to the final was against the powerful Aldergrove team, who had also won both of their previous games. The exciting contest ended in a 1-1 tie, with Aldergrove surviving a nervewracking late assault by the Pioneers.

With both teams having identical records, a complicated tie-breaking system saw Aldergrove advance to the final, leaving the Pioneers in third place.

On a positive note, the unbeaten streak is now at 12 games.

- Based in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, the Pioneers play in the Over 50 Division of the BCOTS (BC Old Timers Soccer league). The division has 40 teams from all over the Lower Mainland region.
